Following the death of the Kaaba's key custodian, Sheikh Saleh bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi, a new key bearer has been appointed.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the title and the key to the sacred Khana Kaaba have been handed over to Sheikh Abdulwahab Al-Shaibi, the eldest member among the 400 individuals of the Al-Shaibi family.
Sheikh Abdulwahab Al-Shaibi became the 78th custodian since the conquest of Mecca, when Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) entrusted the key to the Banu Shaiba family, giving them the responsibility of maintaining the Kaaba.
Since that time, the custodianship of Khana Kaaba has remained with the Al-Shaibi family. Members of the tribe greet visitors to the inside of the Kaaba on the occasion of the cleaning ceremony.
