School bus plunges into ravine, one teacher dead, 20 students injured

In a tragic incident near the Shahdara area of Islamabad, a school teacher lost her life, and at least 20 students were injured when their school bus veered off the road and fell into a ravine, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The police have confirmed the casualty and the number of injured students, revealing that the students were on a school trip from Sheikhupura to the federal capital when the accident occurred.
A total of 54 individuals, including school staff and students, were on board the bus—13 teachers and other staff, 22 school boys, and 19 school girls.
The deceased teacher has been identified as 22-year-old Hania, adding a somber note to the tragic incident.
The rescue teams reached the site of the accident and shifted the injured to hospitals.
Thirteen of the students were shifted to Poly Clinic Hospital and eight to the PIMS hospital.
The victims admitted to PIMS Hospital and Poly Clinic Hospital have been identified.
Among the injured children are 9-year-old Hareem Fatima, 12-year-old Noor Fatima, 9-year-old Abubakar, 12-year-old Faiqan Jameel, and 12-year-old Mahsam.
Mahsam has suffered a backbone fracture and is transferred to Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi.
Sharing further details of the incident, the police said that the vehicle’s engine was running while the driver stood outside. At that time, they said, the bus started moving down the hill and eventually landed in the ditch.
However, some of the passengers had got off the bus when it stopped on the spot.
Later, the police revealed that the bus driver fled the scene right after the accident.
The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the country community, prompting authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
