Punjab government Friday appointed Capt. (retd) Zafar Iqbal as Additional Inspector General of Police, South Punjab.
The post has been vacant since the appointment of Inam Ghani as Inspector General of Punjab Police.
Inam Ghani was the first-ever Additional Inspector General of Police, South Punjab. The Punjab government has established a South Punjab Secretariat to soothe the feeling of deprivation in the southern part of the most populous province of the country as the demand of a separate province grows in the region and same was also pledged by the ruling party, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf.
Capt. (retd) Zafar Iqbal is a PSP officer of Grade 21 and he had been performing his duties as Additional Inspector General of Police, Punjab Highway Patrol, Lahore.
IGP Inam Ghani had forwarded three names to the provincial government for the post of additional IG for South Punjab region including Additional IG Azhar Hameed Khokhar, Ghulam Rasool Zahid and Capt Zafar Iqbal.
