A police officer tendered his resignation after Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh abused him publically.

Talking to City42, Sub-inspector Fahad Iftikhar Virk alleged that Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh called him as “son of a donkey” during an official meeting on September 22.

“I could not tolerate him abusing my father. CCPO’s behavior is unbecoming of his rank as well as being illegal and immoral. I feel humiliated and decide to step down,” said the cop.

SI Fahad Virk was serving as social media incharge of Lahore Police at CCPO office. He said he had played vital role in establishing the social media cell.

Several officers and officials of the force are ‘reluctant’ to work with the CCPO because of his behaviour. Some policemen either take leave or get transferred in a bid to ‘avoid’ the top cop.

On September 24, SSP Liaquat Malik was transferred and posted as AIG Discipline after reportedly exchanging words with the CCPO.

Earlier, the city’s top cop sought public apology over his controversial and insensitive remarks, blaming the victim of the Motorway gang-rape for being careless. Sheikh said he had already sought an apology over his media statement. He said he had no ill intention while giving the statement.

Umer Sheikh took charge as Lahore CCPO on September 2. Umar also served as DPO Nawabshah, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Jamshoro besides serving as a Regional Police Officer in DG Khan.

On September 9, the federal government replaced Shoaib Dastgir with Inam Ghani as the Punjab Inspector General of Police, a few days after the former IGP refused to continue his duties over a reported feud with Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh.
