Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has alleged that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family committed corruption in constructing motorways during the time they were in power, reported 24News HD TV channel on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference flanked by Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed in Islamabad, Fawad Chaudhary said that the Sharif family made road construction a business, and used it for vested interests. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan was not against building motorways but he was against corruption.
Fawad said that Pakistan had accumulated debt of Rs6 trillion in 65 years, which reached a whopping Rs27 trillion during the PML-N government. He further said that the Sharif family invested the country's money abroad, adding that the flats were bought in London at the time of the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway agreement.
On the occasion, Murad Saeed said that the previous rulers built costly motorways as compared to those constructed during the PTI government's tenure. He said even the repair of roads was carried out at costly rates in PML-N's rule. He claimed that both Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari laundered money abroad.
