JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Wednesday emphasized the importance of consensus when approving constitutional amendments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a meeting with senior journalists, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that extensions should serve national interests rather than individual needs and expressed support for the establishment of a constitutional court.
He also highlighted that he is not in favor of amendments for any specific individual, recalling how collective support for former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary ended in disappointment for many.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman pointed out the growing influence of armed groups in two provinces and criticized the rigging that he believes ousted nationalists and religious parties from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He also addressed the inconsistency in how nationalist separatism is treated as an internal issue while religious conflicts are portrayed as global concerns.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman urged for a focus on the broader national interest, asserting that the role of institutions in elections should not be seen as a unifying force for the country.
