In the wake of recent protests against wage and salary increases by employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the airline's administration is reportedly seeking legal counsel to address the demonstrators, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sources indicated that the PIA plans to invoke the newly implemented Compulsory Services Act to take disciplinary actions against those involved.

The Compulsory Services Act, which came into effect this May, categorises neglect of responsibilities by employees as a criminal act. This law further mandates strict disciplinary actions against any employee found in violation of its terms.

One of the significant clauses in the Act strictly prohibits mass gatherings or sit-ins, especially within the workplace or institutional grounds. Employees who disobey directives under this act are held accountable for their actions and can face severe consequences.

Insiders reveal that the PIA's decision to resort to this Act is primarily due to the perceived disruption and neglect of duties by the protesting employees. With the airline's operations being central to the country's transportation infrastructure, any disruption can have far-reaching consequences, both in terms of operations and finances.

The introduction of the Compulsory Services Act and its subsequent invocation by institutions like PIA underscores the government's intention to maintain discipline and order within essential services. It remains to be seen how the PIA's workforce responds to the administration's move, especially given the potentially severe implications of the new legislation.
