A loss of Rs 45.7 million to the public exchequer has been incurred due to the non-return of six Ph.D. scholars after completing their studies from abroad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
An audit report by the Auditor General of Pakistan in this regard has been presented in the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) held in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Non-returning professors belong to Federal Urdu University and they went abroad by availing of HEC’s Human Resource Development Programme Scholarship Award.
The Federal Urdu University’s acting vice-chancellor told the PAC that a petition was filed against the scholars in the court and the court had summoned the professors.
The PAC ordered to confiscate the 25% security fee of professors. It also issued an order to block the passports and identity cards of the said professors.
