Lt-General (retd) Amjad Shoaib handed over to police on physical remand
He is accused of inciting public against national institutions in TV interview

A local court in Islamabad on Monday gave police three-day physical remand of former Pakistan Army officer Lt-General (retd) Amjad Shoaib relating to inciting people for mutiny and spreading hatred against state institutions, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Islamabad police had requested a week-long physical remand of the accused.
Earlier, police produced Amjad Shoaib in the court of Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah. The court had reserved its judgement, which was pronounced later.
Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib was arrested by the police in Islamabad in a pre-dawn operation on Monday for inciting masses against national institutions. Sources said Ramna police personnel took Amjad Shoaib in custody from his residence in the federal capital and shifted him to the police station.
The police said a case has been lodged against Amjad Shoaib by the local magistrate. Sources in police said the case was registered under sections 153A and 505 of Pakistan Penal Code wherein he was accused of inciting public institutions against institutions in a BOL TV programme.
The FIR contents say Shoaib had incited people to revolt against institutions during his television interview. He had asked government employees and Opposition activists stop discharging their duties, which was aimed at spreading chaos and hatred against government
Currently, he is in police custody at the lockup of the police station. Police will produce the former army officer before a local court today and seek his remand.
Amjad Shoaib was previously summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to appear on September 7th last year after he made claims about a meeting between the Pakistani prime minister and an Israeli team. However, he had failed to appear before the FIA's Cybercrimes Wing as asked.
