Maryam Nawaz, the first woman chief minister of Punjab, presided over three meetings after taking charge of the CMO, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
A smartly turned-out police contingent presented her guard of honour. Presiding over a meeting on law and order, she took notice of Taxala woman manhandling.
“I will not tolerate such behaviour by a law enforcer. It is a must for a law enforcer to treat people with dignity and protect them from being insulted. Who will respect the law if the law enforcer breaks it?
The chief minister, earlier, showered loads of praise on Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi for rescuing a woman from an angry mob in Lahore.
“Thank you! Shehrbano, we are all proud of you," she said and lauded the bravery, dedication, wisdom, and sense of duty displayed by the police officer to avert an incident which could turn into violence any moment.
She vowed to bring in police reforms and improvement in the prosecution system. She said merit would be maintained and the zero-tolerance policy against bribery would be adopted at all costs.
The IGP briefed the chief minister about law and order in the province and police performance.
Chairing a meeting to control prices, she ordered establishing a regular department for price control in 5 days.
She also ordered sustainable measures for price control and sought an immediate plan.
She issued directives to monitor the demand and supply system
“Temporary measures are not enough. Controlling prices is the top priority of the government,” she stressed.
Earlier in her victory speech after being elected, the chief minister unveiled a Ramadan relief package.
