Persistent monsoon rains in the country’s cotton belt have caused colossal loss to the crop, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Cotton Ginners Forum Chairman Ihsanul Haq has said there are fears that this time the country many not achieve the production target, which had been set at over 10 million bales. “The situation will also dent the country’s exports,” he said.
He has further said that the price of cotton bale has come down by Rs300 per maund in Punjab to reach Rs18, 200 per maund. “While in Sindh, the price has dropped by Rs30 per maund to reach Rs18, 000,” he has informed.
