Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority on Sunday put a ban on the broadcasting of speeches by PTI leader and Senator Azam Swat, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the Pemra notification, no TV channel is allowed to run any ticker, news, or statement issued by Azam Swati. There will also be a ban on the re-run of Swati’s speech and his invitation as a guest in any TV programme.
The ban was imposed under Section 27 of the Pemra Ordinance.
The media regulatory authority took notice of Swati’s address to the PTI rally in Rawalpindi last night.
According to the Pemra notification, the licence of news channels would be suspended without any show-cause notice if they violated its order.
The notification was issued after its approval by the Pemra chairman.
In the latest development, the FIA arrested Swati early Sunday morning on the charge of using indecent language against the state institutions.
A three-member FIA team raided Swati’s farmhouse in Chak Shahzad for uploading controversial posts on Twitter and took him into custody.
This was the second time that the PTI leader was arrested in less than two months by the FIA officers for his controversial tweets. He was previously arrested by the FIA in October.
