The fire that had erupted at a tissue paper-manufacturing factory in Hayatabad, Peshawar on Saturday evening was finally doused after hectic efforts of 21 hours, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

The cooling process was underway while the debris was being removed and burnt items were being thrown out when last reports came in.

The factory’s first storey was completely destroyed and collapsed due to the blaze.

Earlier, 24News had reported that firefighters had failed to douse the flames that had engulfed a factory even after the passage of several hours.

The situation had led the concerned officials to call firefighters from other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) namely Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera and Khyber while over 25 vehicles of Rescue 1122 and over 100 volunteers participated in relief and rescue operations.

According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, Bilal Ahmad Faizi, the blaze was so intense that many firefighters and the rescuers fainted.

Meanwhile, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi requested the PAF to send its helicopters to assist the firefighters in putting out the fire.

The governor also contacted the Peshawar commissioner and sought a report on the incident.

He issued directives to the department concerned to utilise all-out resources to control the fire.
