Strong earthquake jolts many KP cities

Different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including provincial capital Peshawar, were jolted by a strong earthquake, measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, on Monday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

People came out of their homes reciting Kalimae Tayyaba.

Earthquake was also reported from Swat, Nowshera, Bajaur, Upper Dir and Lower Dir, Chitral, Mardan, Charsadda and other parts of KP.

Soon after the earthquake, rescue 1122 personnel were put on a high alert but so far there was no report of any damage or loss of life.

On August 17 last, earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale, jolted Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in the wee hours of Thursday. Tremors, which were also felt in the surrounding areas of the city like Mangla, Jatlan, Chakswari, Islam Garh and Dhadyal at 3:19 AM, spread panic among the resident.

It may be mentioned here that a 5.8 magnitude earthquake had struck parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at around 9:02 PM on August 5, 2023. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the quake’s epicentre was Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region with a depth of 196 kilometers.

The quake was felt in Islamabad, Peshawar, Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Swat, Kohat, Mansehra, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Mirpur, Daudkhel, Chiniot, Parachinar, Nankana Sahib, Sahiwal, Chichawatni and Battagram.
