Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor has responded to the petition following the controversial title of her pregnancy book, ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan's Pregnancy Bible’, which also sought a ban on the sale of the book.
The same book landed Kareena in trouble when she got a legal notice from the Madhya Pradesh High Court in May 2024 for using the word ‘Bible’ in her pregnancy memoir. According to several media reports, Christopher Anthony, an advocate, raised objections regarding the use of the term 'Bible' and raised a petition on behalf of the Christian community, stating that using the word ‘Bible’ in the memoir's title is hurtful to the sentiments of their religion.
On August 27, 2024, Kareena Kapoor finally responded to the legal notice issued to her a few months ago. According to several media reports, the actress' lawyers, Divya Krishna Billaiya and Nikhil Bhatt, appeared before the court to clarify that Kareena never intended to hurt any religious sentiments or offend any community.
This statement came as an objection to the petition that sought a stay on the sale of the actress' book, which she even called her 'third child'. According to media reports, the next hearing of this case is scheduled for September 10, 2024, by the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which Justice GS Ahluwalia will head.
Previously, Christopher Anthony, who is also a social activist from Jabalpur, had stated in his petition that the word 'Bible' is the holy book of Christianity all over the world. "The Bible is the holy book of Christianity all over the world, and it is wrong to compare Kareena Kapoor Khan's pregnancy with the Bible," he added. However, his earlier petition was rejected by the court as he failed to prove how the word 'Bible' was offensive in Kareena's book.
The social activist then appealed to the Additional Sessions Court, which was dismissed. However, later, in May 2024, a legal notice was issued to Kareena, the sellers and the publisher of the book. Meanwhile, this wasn't the first time someone objected to the word 'Bible' in Kareena's book. When she had just released her book in 2021, another Christian organisation raised concerns and even filed a police complaint against her and two others on the pretext of allegedly offending religious sentiments.
On the professional front, Kareena Kapoor Khan is gearing up for the release of her crime thriller, Buckingham Murders, in September 2024.
