New prosecution team to pursue Priyantha Kumara lynching case

The Punjab government Monday constituted a new five-member prosecution team to pursue the Priyantha Kumara mob lynching case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Secretary prosecution Nadeem Sarwar notified the abolition of the previous team.

He said the new team was comprised of senior and experienced prosecutors and they would provide the best legal advice to the government.

The new team will be reporting to the Punjab prosecutor general about the case hearing development.

He said the decision regarding abolition of previous team and forming a new one was taken in order to provide a prompt justice to the Sri Lankan national.

It is pertinent to mention here that Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana, 49, a Sri Lankan national was lynched by a mob on Dec 3, 2021 in Sialkot. He was beaten, killed and later set on fire by a mob in Sialkot.
