The government has prepared the terms of reference (ToRs) for the Broadsheet Commission head by Justice (R) Sheikh Azmat Saeed.

These ToRs will empower the commission to form special committees of officials and experts to investigate the Broadsheet scandal. The commission will look into the process, which was adopted to pick Broadsheet and IAR, appointment of these firms and the agreements signed with these firms. The commission will also look into cancellation of Pakistani government’s agreements with Broadsheet and IAR in 2003 and impact of this decision. Moreover, the commission will investigate the reasons for payments made to Broadsheet in 2008 and impact of these payments.

The controversy involving the UK-based asset recovery firm Broadsheet has been echoing in Pakistan over the last few weeks. Pakistan’s two mainstream political parties have been linked to the scandal.

The PPP has been accused of making $1.5 million payment to a wrong company and the PML-N has been accused of keeping the August 2016 decision of the award in the Broadsheet case a secret.
