The meeting of the Judicial Commission, held on Thursday with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial in the chair, failed to produce the desired results as the participants rejected the names of all five judges nominated by the CJP for the purpose by a majority vote, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources told 24News that such a dispiriting impact this had on the chief justice that he walked out of the room before announcing the date for the next meeting.
The five nominees were Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Justice Shahid Waheed, Peshawar High Court (PHC) judge Justice Qaiser Rasheed Khan, and Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Shafi Siddique and Justice Naimatullah of the Sindh High Court (SHC).
Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the SC and the attorney general of Pakistan (AGP), who both were abroad at the time of the meeting, joined in via a video link.
Few days ago, Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the SC had recommended delaying the commission meeting.
