National Assembly has approved Election Act Amendment Bill 2024 with a majority amid protest by the Opposition, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


The bill was presented in the Assembly by Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar. Under the bill, retired judges can be appointed in election tribunals while the power to establish election tribunals rests with the Election Commission.


Earlier, Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs chairman Rana Aradat Sharif presented the report of the committee on the amendment bill.


Meanwhile addressing the parliament, Defence Minister Kh Asif said that Afghanistan soil was being used against bloodshed in Pakistan. Therefore Pakistan has the right to destroy the hideouts of the terrorists.


He advised the opposition members not to politicize operation Azm-e-Istehkam. He further said if the opposition wanted to stand with the theorists it was their choice. On the remarks of Kh Asif, the opposition parties staged protest.
