Somon Air's inaugural flight connects Dushanbe and Islamabad

The inaugural flight of Tajik airline Somon Air, flight SMR 129, landed in Islamabad from Dushanbe at 11:45 AM, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Pakistan-Tajikistan relations.

The flight carried fourteen passengers and was greeted with a traditional cannon salute by fire tenders from the Civil Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Service.

A celebratory cake-cutting ceremony was held, attended by prominent figures including Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Tajikistan Ambassador Sharifzada Yousaf, Chief Operating Officer of Islamabad Airport Syed Aftab Gilani, Deputy Terminal Manager Hamza Bin Masood, and leading businessmen. The Airport Manager, Director SAPs, and other dignitaries were also present.

Flight SMR 130 departed from Islamabad at around 3:30 PM with 52 passengers on board. During the ceremony, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi highlighted the importance of direct flights in fostering closer ties, mutual cooperation, and regional progress. He emphasized the shared cultural heritage between the two countries and the benefits for businessmen seeking new investment and trade opportunities.

The Governor praised the efforts of officials, diplomats, and stakeholders who facilitated the launch of direct flights and later flew to Dushanbe on the inaugural return flight to meet the business community and explore new avenues of trade and investment.
