Former members of the Pakistan national cricket team Sohaib Maqsood and Amir Yamin have assailed the Sindh police for extorting bribes from the two cricketers as they were travelling from Karachi to Multan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Both the cricketers were returning from Karachi after representing Multan Regions in the National T20 Cup, when they encountered the Sindh police on the road.
Sohain Maqsood and Amir Yamin alleged that the law-enforcers stopped them forcefully on their way home and openly demanded bribes.
Sharing their ordeal on the social media, Sohaib and Amir Yamin criticized the Sindh police for their conduct, expressing relief that they didn’t live in Sindh.
“We’re lucky to live in Punjab, not in Sindh. This was my first time travelling from Karachi to Multan by road, and the Sindh police’s corruption is evident,” Sohaib Maqsood stated on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Narrating their experience, Sohaib Maqsood highlighted how the police stopped them repeatedly, asking for money and even threatening them without valid reasons.
“Even after we explained we were international cricketers heading home after our match in Karachi, they still extorted 8000 rupees from us,” Maqsood lamented.

Amir Yamin also voiced same sentiments and even mentioned relevant authorities in his post on social media to bring their attention to the issue.
Responding to their allegations, Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Riffat Mukhtar took prompt action, directing DIG Shaheed Benazirabad to conduct an urgent investigation into the incident.
The IGP emphasized strict action against those found involved in mistreating the national cricketers.
Following IGP’s order, DIG Shaheed Benazirabad took swift action and arrested four policemen who were involved in the incident.
The SHO Sakrand and another police official were suspended for negligence of duty.
