Senior journalist Hamid Mir on Wednesday confirmed that his maternal grandmother, who was kidnapped along with her two daughters and a son, was missing since 1947, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Mir said this while talking to the TV channel after PML-N leader Khawaja Asif discussed the issue in the National Assembly where he blasted the PTI government over the Kashmir policy, saying that history would never forgive Prime Minister Imran Khan.
When contacted for his comments after the PML-N leader’s speech, Mir told the TV channel that around 0.1 million Kashmiris were martyred and their women kidnapped when hundreds of thousands of them started moving towards Pakistan from Jammu in October 1947.
Sharing the details of the tragic incident, he said his grandfather Ghulam Ahmed was a close associate of Kashmiri leader Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas whose daughter was abducted during the mayhem. Hearing the news, he left his family in a bus carrying other members too to assist the leader, Mir added.

According to Mir, the bus was later attacked near the Jammu-Sialkot border during which all the male members were martyred. However, his grandmother Ghulam Fatima managed to hide his mother under some dead bodies.
As the attackers entered the bus, she was sitting there along with the toddler son. They took her away despite offering some resistance.
The seasoned journalist said attempts were made in later years to trace her out but in vain. He himself visited the Indian city of Gurdaspur but failed in his attempts, Mir added.
Earlier in his address, Khawaja Asif said, “The prime minister has committed treason against Kashmir, has committed treason against the blood of Kashmiris. History will never forgive Imran Khan [for this].”
He said every family in Sialkot had a martyr, adding that 0.1 million Kashmiris were martyred as they attempted to cross the border.
“The maternal grandmother of Hamid Mir went missing while crossing the border. She hasn’t been found till today.”
Accusing the government of deceiving the Kashmiris, the PML-N leader said the debacle of Srinagar was the result of making Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India happy.
He reminded the House that Imran had prayed for the success of Modi in elections at a rally held in Bajaur.
Blasting the government over the Abhinandan issue, Khawaja Asif said the Indian pilot was released with a claim that the move would result in reducing tensions with India. “What did you get through this investment?” he questioned, asking the government why they were not speaking the truth.
