Faisal Farid advocate, brother of senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, in a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, has pleaded to the Supreme Court that a fair and transparent trial in his brother’s case should be conducted, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The letter also urges the CJP that court should take immediate and effective steps for rule of law in the case. Faisal said Supreme Court had before it a request made by another lawyer Fawad Chaudhry seeking justice. Fawad was detained from his residence in Lahore on January 25. Violating laws, he was taken by security forces like a terrorist. The issue was raised in Lahore High Court, but the whole world is witness to the fact that security agencies made fun of LHC orders by ignoring them. Prominent bar councils of the country condemned the unfair treatment meted out to Fawad Chaudhry.
However, the voice fell on deaf ears of the power quarters and he was shifted from Lahore to Islamabad. After sending Fawad to jail on judicial remand, he was again left at mercy of the police for physical remand. After grant of physical remand by court, fears have arisen that he will be subjected to custodial torture in police custody.
Faisal, in the letter, was of the view that lawlessness and human rights abuses were spreading harassment among people. There, immediate intervention of the court and implementation of the law and constitution was required.
