Parts of Karachi received light rain and drizzle on Saturday morning amid hot and humid weather gripping the port city for over a week now, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Light rain was reported from the areas near Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine while it drizzled at Sea View, Clifton and Neelum Colony.

It was cloudy but at the same time extremely hot and humid in the city early in the morning, while the Met Office forecast more monsoon rains for the city and other parts of Sindh during the next 24 hours.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 30 degrees Celsius and it was expected to go up to 38 degrees Celsius later in the day.

The level of humidity stood at 73 per cent while breeze was blowing from a north-easterly direction at the speed of 13 kilometers per hour.

Loadshedding makes matters worse for Karachites

At a time when the people of Karachi are already braving extreme heat and humidity, hours-long loadshedding in several parts of the city is testing the people’s patience.

There are fears that deaths from heatstroke could rise, especially in congested localities of the city such as New Karachi, Surjani Town and Orangi, due to power cuts.

On the other hand, the health department is yet to give instructions to Karachi-Electric (K-Electric) not to resort to loadshedding, while so indifferent are Sindh Health Minister Azra Fazal Pechuho and Secretary Health Rehan Baloch to the situation that they are yet to visit a Heatstroke Ward at any hospital.

On the other hand, PMA Secretary General Abdul Ghaffar Shoro has requested K-Electric to stop loadshedding.

Rain reported from other Sindh cities

Besides Karachi, other parts of Sindh too received showers during the last 24 hours.

It rained at Umarkot that offered a respite to the locals from extremely hot weather.

However, it resulted in a power breakdown in most areas of the city.
