The National Assembly has adopted a resolution against the US Congress motion, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.
The resolution presented by MNA Shaista Pervez Malik stated the House showed concerns about the US Congress’s remarks on the Pakistan general election.
The motion expressed concerns about the continued suppression of the democratic rights of the Kashmiris in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IIOJK) and the plight of Palestinians.
It added the House called the United States and the world to take notice of the plight of the people of Gaza and Occupied Kashmir
The House is keen to develop ties with the United States on mutual respect, it said, adding that the House expects a positive role from the US House of Representatives in the future. As the assembly adopted the resolution, the opposition members kept raising slogans against it.
Earlier, the Foreign Office said the US resolution was an unsolicited interference in Pakistan’s domestic affairs which was neither welcome nor acceptable.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, at her weekly press briefing, said that the resolution stemmed from an inadequate and erroneous understanding of the political and electoral process of Pakistan.
“It is also an unsolicited interference in Pakistan’s domestic affairs. We believe that bilateral relations between countries should be based on mutual respect and sovereign equality. The unsolicited interference from the US Congress is therefore neither welcome nor acceptable,” she remarked.
The FO spokesperson said the timing and context of the resolution were also not conducive to the current positive trajectory of bilateral ties between Pakistan and the United States. She said Pakistan would like to develop its relations with the US based on mutual trust and confidence and non-interference in each other’s domestic affairs.
