Two more doctors die of coronavirus in Karachi, Khairpur

| 163 infected in Faisalabad, govt stops smart sampling | 45 Islamabad cops test positive in one week

Pakistan lost two more doctors – one in Karachi and another in Khairpur – as the coronavirus claimed their lives amid the alarming rise in the number of cases and deaths, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

One of them was Dr Zahoor Sheikh who had retired as assistant medical superintendent (AMS) of Civil Hospital last year. Dr Zahoor, who was currently practicing at a private hospital, had contracted the virus some days back.

According to a spokesperson of Sindh Health Department, a total of nine doctors have so far died in the province since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

And in Lahore, Sub-Inspector Khalid Khan died of the coronavirus, thus raising the deaths suffered by police in the city to five, including a DSP and three low-ranking officials. Khalid, 57, was shifted to a quarantine centre after being diagnosed with the coronavirus.

The coronavirus also claimed the Lahore City’s DEO (Elementary Education) Afzal Hussain. He had been receiving treatment at Mayo Hospital since being diagnosed with the virus on May 27.

On the other hand, another PPP lawmaker, Salim Baloch who is a Sindh Assembly member from Malir district, has contracted the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the number of doctors infected doctors in Faisalabad reached 163 after another seven were tested positive for the virus during the past 24 hours.

But in a strange development, the government stopped the Health Department from smart sampling despite the fact the coronavirus has so far been found in 1,849 people in the district.

And the Islamabad Police too is being badly affected by the pandemic, as 45 officials tested positive for the virus during the last one week.

The coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate in the federal capital where 34 deaths and 3,188 cases have so far been reported despite having much less population than other administrative in of the country.
