Late Abdul Qadir’s family refuses to see Imran Khan
The family of late cricketer Abdul Qadir Friday refused to call on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in Zaman Park Lahore, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
The family members were invited by the former prime minister to his residence as he wanted to condole the death of the legendary spinner who died on September 6, 2019.
Salman Qadir, son of late cricketer Abdul Qadir claimed that Imran Khan had invited his family over to condole his father's death, to which his family refused.
He said that he was informed two to three days ago that the former prime minister wants to meet his family at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore to offer Fatiha for their late father three years after his death.
Our father passed away three-and-a-half years ago and whoever wants to offer condolences, they can come to your house," he added in a video message.
"My family and mother did not find it appropriate to visit Zaman Park or any other place to offer Fatiha for our father. This is why we refused to go."
Khan and Qadir had played together for Pakistan during the 1970s and 80s ear when the former prime minister used to play cricket.
The former spin legend passed away on September 6, 2019, due to cardiac arrest.
Born in Lahore in 1955, Qadir was widely regarded as a legendary leg spinner from the 1970s and 1980s and was a role model for upcoming leg spinners.
Later, he served as Chief Selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board, from which he resigned due to differences of opinion with leading Pakistan cricket administrators.
He took 236 wickets in 67 Test matches and 132 wickets in just 104 One Day Internationals (ODIs).
In November 2022, Qadir became the country’s latest inductee into the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Hall of Fame, becoming the seventh Pakistani to join the prestigious list of cricketers from all over the world.
