The Punjab Wildlife Department has imposed an immediate ban on monkey circus performances across the province, rescuing three monkeys and arresting two jugglers for violating the new regulations. Heavy fines were also imposed on the offenders.
According to a statement from the department, a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted against such acts. Any individual found engaging in monkey circus activities will face legal action. The rescued monkeys have been relocated to Jallo Forest and Wildlife Park for proper care.
Director General of Punjab Wildlife and Parks, Mudassar Riaz Malik, emphasised the need to protect the monkey population in Pakistan. He highlighted various threats, including habitat destruction, deforestation, and hunting for entertainment and medicinal purposes, which are endangering these species.
Malik assured that the department is committed to addressing these challenges using all available resources to safeguard the monkey population and preserve the region’s biodiversity.
