New Year Night: IGP orders no tolerance for aerial firing, one-wheeling

Punjab Police is all set to take stringent action against those violating laws during the New Year's celebrations, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, has issued clear directives to curb activities such as one-wheeling and aerial firing.
A Punjab Police spokesperson revealed that in 2024 alone, 3,595 cases of aerial firing were registered, resulting in 5,412 arrests. Furthermore, 3,865 individuals were sentenced, and 2,816 challans were issued across the province.
In Lahore, 523 cases of aerial firing led to 572 arrests, while one-wheeling incidents resulted in 1,641 registered cases and 1,569 arrests. Notably, 3,170 cases were filed, and 3,365 people were arrested for one-wheeling in the provincial capital.
IGP Dr Usman Anwar emphasised, "Aerial firing and one-wheeling endanger lives and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Violators will face strict action."
He appealed to parents to educate and discourage their children from indulging in one-wheeling, which often results in fatal accidents.
