Sindh United Party (SUP) has launched a 24-hour hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club to protest against the construction of canals on the River Sindh, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Monday.

The hunger strike, led by SUP leader Roshan Barro, has been accompanied by loud slogans against the provincial government’s decision to construct these canals.

Barro stated that the hunger strike would continue for 24 hours and will remain until the government halts the canal construction project.

According to the party leaders, the project poses a significant threat to the environment and the people of Sindh.

“This hunger strike is just the beginning, and our protest will continue until the canal project is scrapped,” said Roshan Barro, adding that similar protests and hunger strikes have been organised in various cities across Sindh, including Hyderabad and Sukkur.

The SUP is demanding the government reconsider the impact of these projects on the local ecosystem and livelihoods of the people living along the river.
