Canals issue: Shutter-down strike being observed in Kashmore

A complete shutter-down strike is being observed in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Mehar, Tando Allah Yar, Dherki, and Kindkot areas of Sindh on the call of the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STP) against the construction of six new canals from the Indus River, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a gathering, STS leader Niaz Ahmad said that construction of new canals is equal to enmity with the people from Kashmore to Sindh.

The participants changed slogans against the construction of new canals. They said that people of Sindh are already getting low water, which will further decrease after new canals.

They said that the Indus River is a lifeline for Sindh.

The shutter-down strike is also being observed in Jacobabad, and all small and big trading centres, including the Cloth Market, Sarafa Market, Shah Bhitai Bazar, Tower Road, Quaid-e-Azam Road, and other business centres, remained closed.

Residents of Dherki are facing difficulties due to the shutter-down strike being observed in the city.  The protesters urged the Sindh government to take measures to immediately halt construction of new canals.

A shutter-down strike is also being observed in Kindyaro, and all business centres and bazaars are partially closed in the area while traffic flow is also lower.

In Mehar, due to the shutter-down strike, Resham Gali, Cloth Market, Sarafa Bazar, and Anaj Market remained closed.

While a strike is being observed in Tando Allah Yar, Jhambar, Kindkot, and other areas of Sindh.

STS leader Akram Bajani said that their protest will continue until the government announces a halt to the construction of new canals.
