The Sindh High Court (SHC) has restrained Inland Revenue Audit, a subsidiary of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), from taking final action against sugar mills.
The court stayed the action while taking up petitions of mill owners against audit income tax, sales tax and federal excise duty.
The counsel for mill owners told the court that action was taken on the directives PM Imran Khan and the notices were served without citing justification and reasons for doing so.
Following the PM’s directive, an inquiry commission was constituted and on May 21 the cabinet too issued directives to take action on November 13 show-cause notices were served.
The petitioners made a request to the court for annulling the notices and stopping authorities from such actions.
