Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly denounced the suicide attack inside a mosque at Police Lines in Peshawar which has killed 28 people and injured more than 120 others, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a statement on Monday, he said targeting the mosque is proof that the attackers have nothing to do with Islam.

He said terrorists want to create fear by targeting those who are rendering the duty of defending Pakistan.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan's firm commitment to rooting out terrorism. He said the entire nation and institutions are united and unified to eradicate terrorism.

He said the entire nation salutes its martyrs.

Shehbaz Sharif said a comprehensive strategy would be adopted on the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The centre will cooperate in increasing the anti-terrorism capacity of the provinces.

The prime minister said the interior minister has been instructed to provide assistance in increasing the capacity of the counter-terrorism departments of the provinces, especially that of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Commiserating with the bereaved families, PM Shehbaz also prayed for the higher ranks of martyrs.

Bilawal, Asif Zardari condemn blast, say terror incidents worrisome before elections in KP

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president and Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari condemned the suicide blast in Peshawar. 

They said that it was quite alarming situation that terrorists were becoming active in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

Zardari called upon the government to destroy the safe havens of terrorists. 

He said that incidents of terrorism were worrisome before elections in the province. 

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari vowed to take a strict action against terrorists, their patrons and facilitators. 

He said that the National Action Plan was the cure for terrorists and it would be strictly followed. He called upon the PPP workers and officials to donate blood to save the lives of the injured.

Imran condemns blast, urges govt to properly equip police forces to combat growing threat of terrorism

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan condemned the Peshawar blast while stressing the need to improve the intelligence gathering and properly equip police forces to combat the growing threat of terrorism. 

Taking to his Twitter handle, Imran wrote: “Strongly condemn the terrorist suicide attack in police lines mosque Peshawar during prayers. My prayers & condolences go to victims families. It is imperative we improve our intelligence gathering & properly equip our police forces to combat the growing threat of terrorism."
