Former information minister and PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Saturday that the party was now mulling filing a reference against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja in the Judicial Commission for meeting with the leaders of political parties, presently part of the coalition government, and assuring them early decision in PTI foreign funding case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media in Islamabad, he said that meeting with the people belonging to the opposite party prior to the pronouncement of decision was a clear-cut breach of the code of conduct devised for judges.
He went on to say that the chief election commissioner’s (CEC) salary was equal to that of judges of the high courts. “Now it is up to the PTI’s parliamentary party to decide what should be the future course of action,” he added.
He said that the PTI would not let anyone decide the country’s affairs behind closed doors.
While defending funding to PTI from foreign donors, he said that they were overseas Pakistanis and the only thing the party had to check was whether the money was sent through legal means. “We cannot check the source of income of a donor,” he said, and asked how could the party go after every donor to ascertain his or her source of income.
He regretted that the crisis the country was facing presently was due to the ECP that had expressed its inability to the Supreme Court to hold general elections.
Commenting on the status of ‘turncoats’, PTI leader said that those who deceived their voters had no respect in the society.
