The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued notices to the former information minister Fawad Chaudhry in the contempt of the ECP and contempt of the chief election commissioner (CEC) cases.
Hearing of the contempt of the ECP case against Fawad will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday. ECP Member Nisar Durrani will hear the contempt of the ECP case. Fawad has already been indicted in the ECP and CEC contempt cases.
Fawad had requested an open trial in the contempt of the ECP case. This is worth mentioning that this case against Fawad has been pending for the last two years.
In January this year, the ECP had indicted former prime minister Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry in the case pertaining to contempt of the electoral body and the CEC.
The case was heard in-camera by a four-member bench headed by Nisar Durrani in Adiala Jail, where the PTI leaders were incarcerated at that time.
PTI lawyer Intizar Hussain Panjutha said that Imran was indicted in the absence of his lawyers.
“No one has seen such a controversial election commission in the history of Pakistan,” he said.
