Swollen River Indus inundates villages in Sindh as more rains forecast for Punjab

Although water levels have dropped in River Sutlej and River Chenab, same is not the situation in River Indus which has wreaked havoc in Sindh following torrential monsoon rains coupled with water released by India into rivers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Road connection between 70 villages of Pir Jo Goth and Gambat was severed after mighty Indus burst its banks and inundated katcha area of Khairpur, Sindh.
Water levels have increased by 17,000 cusecs and 10,000 cusecs at Guddu and Sukkur barrages, respectively.
Water enters Rajanpur district
The situation is threatening in Rajanpur in Punjab as well where after heavy rains over the mountains of Kohe Suleman, water has entered western parts of the district.
Extremely high flood expected at Taunsa
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), River Indus is in high flood in Thatta, Sindh while extremely high flood is expected in the river at Taunsa.
High flood in River Indus at Guddu Barrage
There is high flood in River Indus at Guddu Barrage.
Water inflow in the river has been recorded at over 467,000 cusecs while the discharge at over 450,000 cusecs.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah will reach the site to inspect the situation.
According to the Control Room, water level in the river increased by 57, 000 cusecs during the last 24 hours while 100,000 cusecs of more water is expected during the next 24 to 48 hours.
Water level further rises in River Ravi
On the other hand, water level at Head Baloki in River Ravi has risen further.
Inflow of water in the river has reached 72,000 cusecs while the discharge at 58,000 cusecs.
Temporary protective embankments at Faridabad have been washed away following which several villages of Faridabad, Kot Ila Din and Prinda Sharif have been flooded.
River Sutlej in low flood at Pakpattan
River Sutlej is in low flood at Pakpattan as the water level has reached 72,000 cusecs.
However, crops grown over thousands of acres of land have been destroyed while the affected people are not only faced with a shortage of fodder for their animals but also with food items for themselves.
Personnel of Rescue 1122 are busy evacuating flood victims to safer places.
Situation turns more precarious in River Sutlej at Arifwala
Several protective embankments were washed away after River Sutlej burst its banks at Arifwala.
Roads near Chak Yasin have been washed away while crops grown over thousands of acres of land and homes have been destroyed as the affected people have been forced to spend nights out in the open.
PDMA predicts thunderstorms for Punjab
Forecasting thunderstorms for different districts of Punjab till August 1, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert.
