PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwalla on Thursday said that media reports on the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) were disturbing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a statement, he said out of 12 Boeing-777 planes, which the airline had in its fleet, three had been grounded, while one had been scrapped.
Similarly, he added, two A-320 planes, which the PIA had taken from AirAsia on lease, remained parked at Jakarta airport for the last one year, and it was the national flag carrier that was bearing the expenses of their maintenance and lease.
“Furthermore, one A-320 plane taken from China has also been grounded, while another has been scrapped,” the senator said.
“If these reports about the national airline are true, then this is a very alarming situation,” he said, and added, “It is hoped that government will focus on improving the PIA’s state of affairs.”
