Fearing another long march by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), the government has sealed Islamabad’s Red Zone by placing containers and barbed wires around it, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Only five days ago, on May 25, 2022, thousands of party workers managed to reach the federal capital despite ruthless crackdown by the Punjab and Islamabad police and barricaded roads.
However, later addressing the party workers, former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan asked them to return to their homes, saying he feared that the coalition government had planned their clash with the personnel of Pakistan Army, which he did not want.
He gave the government six-day ultimatum to announce general elections in the country, adding if it did not he would ask his workers to march towards the federal capital again.
A day before yesterday (Saturday, May 28, 2022), the PTI chairman, while addressing a press conference in Peshawar following the party’s core committee meeting, had said that the next time the march would be far more better planned. “We will come after complete preparations,” he had said.
