The Adiala Jail administration has refuted reports claiming that the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan is being denied facilities while incarcerated, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
This statement comes amidst allegations from PTI leaders that Khan is facing undue hardships and being deprived of the amenities he is entitled to under the jail manual.
The Superintendent of Central Jail Rawalpindi, commonly known as Adiala Jail, Abdul Ghafoor Anjum clarified that Khan is being provided with all the necessary facilities in accordance with the jail regulations.
He asserted that special attention is being paid to Khan's security and health, ensuring that his needs are met while he remains in custody.
The PTI has raised concerns over the treatment of their party's founder, suggesting that the withdrawal of certain amenities has made Khan's imprisonment unnecessarily harsh.
PTI Senator Muhammad Ali Khan Saif claimed that he called on Khan at the prison and found he was encountering adversities there.
The PTI founder was not given the facilities that President Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif enjoyed during their respective jail terms, he maintained.
“The PTI founder is suffering from ear pain. He’s not being provided an electric toothbrush and a dumbbell for exercise,” he said.
Saif said the ex-premier was not being allowed to talk to his sons as well over the phone.
However, the jail administration firmly denied these claims, asserting that there has been no deviation from the standard procedures outlined in the jail manual and that Khan is receiving all the rights and privileges to which he is legally entitled.
The Superintendent of Adiala jail said the PTI founder has been provided with two helpers during the day.
“Imran Khan was allowed to meet family, and lawyers as well as hold political meetings twice a week.”
A separate kitchen has been allocated for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi as per the jail superintendent, he said adding that Khan also had the facility of television in his prison cell.
He also has access to meetings during case hearings in jail.
“One English newspaper is sent to the PTI founder every day. To stay in shape, he has a place to walk and an exercise machine,” he remarked.
