Pakistan is expected to be elected as one of the five new non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council on Thursday.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the 53-member Asia-Pacific group has endorsed Pakistan's candidacy.
Pakistan has devised a specific strategy for the Security Council elections, focusing on securing votes from certain regions and countries.
The Pakistani delegation is led by Permanent Representative Munir Akram and Usman Jadoon.
The diplomatic sources said the UN General Assembly will convene on Thursday to elect five non-permanent members to the Security Council. Pakistan is vying for the Asian seat and, if elected, will serve a two-year term starting January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026.
The new members will replace Japan, Ecuador, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland, whose terms expire at the end of this year.
In other contests, Somalia and Mauritius are candidates for one African seat each, Denmark and Greece are competing for a Western European seat, and Panama is the sole candidate for the Latin American seat.
Under the UN Charter, the primary responsibility of the Security Council is to maintain international peace and security. Pakistan is the unopposed candidate for the Asian seat vacated by Japan.
