The government will seal the fate of Shaukat Tarin in a couple of days, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.

He became federal finance minister in April and his term will end next week. According to sources, the government has been weighing the options of getting the outgoing minister elected as a senator and for this purpose, it brought an ordinance.

Last month, reports pointed to the government's plan to get him elected on ex-finance minister Ishaq Dar's seat but to no avail as the ordinance could not be applied in this case.

According to the insiders, the government is considering getting him elected as a senator from KP as no lawmaker from Punjab is ready to resign. The sources said the finance minister can also be made PM finance aide.

The finance minister rubbished the rumours about uncertainties, saying that he was not going anywhere as he 'has full faith that PM Imran Khan will get him elected a senator.

The Pandora Papers put the finance minister's name on the list of key persons who have offshore companies.
