A District and Sessions Court in Lahore Monday rejected a petition seeking to register a case against the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in connection with the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Additional Sessions Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim issued the written decision, citing that the case of Arshad Sharif's murder is already under consideration by the Supreme Court and being pursued by Sharif's family.

The court ruled that the petitioner, Shakir Ali, does not have the authority to bypass the family's ongoing case and file a new one. The decision noted that newspaper clippings and letters presented by the petitioner do not establish the involvement of the PML-N leadership in Sharif's murder.

The judgment also stated that if the petitioner is an eyewitness, he could join the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigation.

The court said that the petitioner failed to provide evidence connecting the PML-N leadership to the murder and does not have the power to nominate accused individuals at will.

Consequently, the petition to register a case against Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and others was rejected.
