The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wednesday announced the selection committees for the men’s national senior and U19 sides, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Haroon Rasheed and Kamran Akmal have been named as heads of the two panels respectively.
According to the PCB, the selection committee for the national men’s senior side consists of Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Sami, and Yasir Hameed, all former Test players.
The selection committee for the national men’s U19 side includes Tauseef Ahmed, Arshad Khan, Shahid Nazir, and Shoaib Khan.
This is the first time that Kamran, Yasir, and Sami have been named as national selectors.
Speaking on the occasion, the PCB chairman Najam Sethi asserted that the newly-announced selection committee involves individuals who understand the demands of the modern game.
“These selection committees comprise individuals who have served Pakistan cricket for decades and understand the demands of the modern game,” said Sethi.
Lahore-born Akmal played 268 international matches, while Karachi-born Sami represented Pakistan in 136 matches. Hameed, who hails from Peshawar, appeared in 81 international matches for Pakistan.
Rasheed also opened up about providing proper opportunities to players under his tenure.
"I have been following domestic cricket. Pakistan has a good pool of players, and we need to focus on them. Too many changes can also affect the team. We have to give a player a proper opportunity before deciding their fate. The majority of our players are between the age bracket of 21 to 27, so once they mature, Pakistan can be a top team in one or two years," he said.
