Country’s upper areas, including Lahore, to receive rains

The weather department has predicted intermittent rainfall for upper parts of the country, including Lahore, from January 2 to January 6 as westerly winds will enter these areas on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Thundershowers and snowfall have been forecast for Murree, Galyat, different parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and the country’s northern areas, leading to the issuance of an alert.
Rains, the outcome of the La Nina weather pattern, will make the weather bitterly cold.
The department has advised tourists to check the weather prediction before heading to the country’s north.
Motorways closed due to fog
On the other hand, the fog has turned everything in large parts of Punjab murky, prompting the closure of different sections of the motorway namely M-2, M-3, M-4 and M-5 for all kinds of traffic.
M-2 was closed from Islamabad to Balksar; M-3, from Lahore to Darkhana, M-4, from Faisalabad to Multan, and M-5, from Multan to Rohri.
Meanwhile, the weather has become much colder in Punjab, including the provincial capital, Lahore.
The Met Office has said that the maximum temperature in the provincial capital will go up to 18 degrees Celsius later in the day while it will remain eight degrees Celsius on the minimum side.
Lahore emerges as sixth most polluted city
On the other hand, Lahore, with the AQI recorded at 219, was ranked as the sixth most polluted city in the world on Wednesday.
The AQI at Adda Plot stood at 575. Similarly, it was 447 at the US consulate, 382 at Phase 8, DHA, 362 at Johar Town and 265 at Askari-10.
