The federal government has given a green signal for “action” against estranged PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday, quoting sources.

According to the sources, there had been three meetings held between Jahangir Tareen and Barrister Ali Zafar, who is probing Tareen’s role in the sugar scandal.

Ali Zafar had quizzed Jahangir Tareen about the charges levelled against him in the FIR, the sources divulged.

The sources also disclosed that former chairman Federal Bureau of Finance (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi assisted Jahangir Tareen on legal issues.

Shabbar Zaidi also put forward evidence to nullify the charges registered in the FIR, the sources said.

There was also a meeting between Jahangir Tareen, Ali Zafar and Special Assistant to PM on Accountability and Interior Shahzad Akbar, who raised questions about Ali Zafar’s report.

Now, the Prime Minister’s House has directed Shahzad Akbar to move the case forward and ignore any pressure, the sources further said.

It may be mentioned here that one of Tareen’s loyalists Raja Riaz had claimed last week that Barrister Ali Zafar had completed his investigation and his report gave a ‘clean chit’ to Jahangir Khan Tareen.

Barrister Zafar, however, rejected Raja’s claim saying that he had not submitted any report to the Prime Minister as yet.

On Monday, a court in Lahore had extended the interim bail of Jahangir Tareen and his son till June 11 in a money laundering case. Additional Sessions Judge Hamid Hussain who heard the case expressed his displeasure over the transfer of the Investigation Officer without seeking the court’s permission.

Deputy Director FIA Rana Shahbaz informed the court that transfers and postings were made in the entire FIA cadre.

The judge issued a show-cause notice to the FIA official who issued transfer orders of FIA’s Investigating Officer.

He also declared that he would not be hearing this case from now onwards as a new judge had been appointed to hear this case.
