Pakistan Bureau of Statistics projects inflation at a four-month high

The Consumer Price Index-based inflation rate has surged to a four-month high in February, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Monday.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based monthly inflation increased by 8.7 per cent year-on-year in February as compared to an increase of 5.7pc in the previous month and 12.4pc in February last, the bureau said.
On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.8pc in February as compared to a decrease of 0.2pc in the previous month and a decrease of 1.0% in February last year, it said, adding that on a month-on-month basis, it decreased by 2.3pc in February as compared to a decrease of 0.2pc in the previous month and a decrease of 1.1pc in February last year.
The bureau continued: "The CPI-based rural inflation increased by 8.8pc on a year-on-year basis in February as compared to an increase of 6.6pc in the previous month and 14.2pc in February last year.
On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.1pc in February as compared to a decrease of 0.3pc in the previous month and a decrease of 1.0pc in February last year. The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation year-on-year increased by 11.9pc in February as compared to an increase of 7.7pc a month earlier and an increase of 14.5pc in February last year.
"The Wholesale Price Index (WHI) based inflation on a year-on-year basis increased by 9.5pc in February as compared to an increase of 6.4pc a month earlier and an increase of 12.7pc in February last year. The WPI inflation on a month-on-month basis increased by 2.2pc in February 2021 as compared to an increase of 2.5pc a month earlier and a decrease of 0.7pc in the corresponding month last year."
