LGH doctors perform complex kidney surgery, giving new life to Balochistan woman

Urology specialists at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) successfully performed a complex laparoscopic nephrectomy on a 57-year-old woman from Ziarat, Balochistan.
According to a 24News report, the patient, identified as Naro Bibi, was suffering from a severely infected and non-functional kidney that had fused with her liver and large intestine due to prolonged untreated kidney stones.
The surgical team, led by Pro Dr Khizar Hayat Gondal, along with Dr Azfar Ali, Dr Raheem Sajjad, and Dr Khalil Ahmed, utilized state-of-the-art laparoscopic technology to remove the diseased kidney with the aid of a camera-assisted procedure.
The successful surgery marked a major medical milestone, offering the patient a new lease on life.
Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar commended Dr Gondal and his team for their exceptional expertise in completing the intricate surgery.
“PGMI/LGH doctors are highly skilled in utilizing modern technology, and this operation demonstrates their remarkable professional competence,” he added.
Dr Khizar Hayat Gondal revealed that the patient had visited multiple hospitals before arriving at LGH in a state of despair.
Upon thorough examination and medical testing, doctors discovered that her kidney had suffered irreversible damage due to prolonged stone formation and infection, which had led to its fusion with surrounding organs.
Fortunately, through meticulous laparoscopic nephrectomy, the medical team was able to safely remove the kidney, relieving the patient of severe pain and life-threatening complications.
Following a swift recovery, she was discharged from the hospital in stable condition.
Expressing their gratitude, the patient’s family thanked Dr Khizar Hayat Gondal and the entire hospital administration for their dedicated efforts.
“Our entire family was hopeless before arriving at LGH, but the expertise of the doctors and the cutting-edge medical facilities gave us new hope and happiness. We are immensely grateful to the hospital administration and medical staff for their compassionate care,” the patient’s relatives stated.
