Google is rolling out a new experimental feature in Chrome for Android, allowing users to clean up web pages for a distraction-free reading experience manually.
According to a report by MSPowerUser, the “Reader Mode Dev Entry Point” is currently in testing and can be enabled via an experimental flag in Chrome’s settings.
Once activated, the feature introduces a “Show simplified view” button in Chrome’s menu, giving users direct control over how they view web content. Unlike the existing Simplified View under Accessibility settings, which only appears when Chrome detects a compatible page, this new option lets users enable Reader Mode whenever they choose.
Chrome’s Reader Mode removes unnecessary elements like ads, sidebars, and pop-ups, leaving only essential text and images. It works by using DOM Distiller, a built-in tool that analyzes web pages to determine if they can be simplified before presenting a cleaner version.
This enhancement could be particularly helpful for individuals with visual impairments or reading difficulties, as it offers adjustable text and layouts to improve readability.
Although Google describes the tool as developer-focused, its increasing demand among users suggests it could become a standard feature in future Chrome updates. If widely implemented, it could provide users with greater control over their browsing experience, making the web more reader-friendly and accessible.
