Lionsgate has officially confirmed John Wick 5, with Keanu Reeves returning as the legendary hitman. The announcement was made at CinemaCon 2025, where the studio also revealed plans to expand the John Wick universe with an animated prequel and a spinoff film starring Donnie Yen.

The animated prequel will explore John Wick’s infamous “Impossible Task”, the deadly mission where he eliminated all his rivals in a single night to gain his freedom from the High Table. The project will feature Keanu Reeves’ voice work, with Shannon Tindle (Ultraman: Rising) directing and Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water) penning the screenplay.

Adding to the expansion, martial arts superstar Donnie Yen will both direct and star in Caine, a standalone spinoff that follows his blind assassin character from John Wick: Chapter 4. The film, set to begin production in Hong Kong later this year, will continue Caine’s journey after being freed from the High Table’s control.

Meanwhile, Ballerina, the long-awaited spinoff starring Ana de Armas, is set to release on June 6, 2025. The film takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4 and sees de Armas undergoing extensive training in combat and firearms for what she describes as her most physically demanding role yet.

With John Wick 5, Ballerina, Caine, and the animated prequel in development, Lionsgate is turning John Wick into a fully-fledged cinematic franchise, ensuring fans can look forward to more action-packed, high-stakes storytelling in the years to come.
