Nintendo has officially announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch globally on June 5, 2025. The announcement was made during a special Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025.
The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts several significant upgrades over its predecessor. It features a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen with HDR support and a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering smoother and more vibrant visuals. The console's internal storage has been expanded to 256GB, accommodating a larger library of games and media. Additionally, the redesigned Joy-Con controllers attach magnetically and introduce a new "C" button, facilitating interactive chat and screenshare functions.
At launch, the Switch 2 will offer an array of titles, including "Mario Kart World," which introduces an open-world mode allowing players to explore various levels at their own pace. A special "Mario Kart Direct" is scheduled for April 17 to provide further details about the game. Other launch titles include "Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour," designed to familiarize players with the new system's features.
The console maintains backward compatibility with most physical and digital games from the original Switch, ensuring that players can continue enjoying their existing game libraries. However, some titles may not be fully supported.
To provide hands-on experience with the new system, Nintendo will host "Switch 2 Experience" events in various cities, including Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris, starting this month.
Pre-order details for the Nintendo Switch 2 have yet to be announced. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to Nintendo's official channels for further updates.
